Karate1 Youth League is gaining momentum
The next stop for the K1 Youth League was La Coruña. 3,000 karatekas from 77 countries arrived in Spain, who competed in various age groups and competed for 46 sets of awards. Among them were athletes from Budo-Nord.
The 2024 Karate 1-Youth League A Coruna is the second event of the season of the series of international Karate tournaments for youngsters. The first event of the season was successfully held in Fujairah (UAE).
After A Coruna, the season of Karate 1-Youth League will travel to Porec (Croatia) from June 27 to 30, Cancun (Mexico) from August 8 to 11, and Venice (Italy) from December 5 to 8. Located in the region of Galicia, in northern Spain, A Coruna welcomes a Karate 1 Youth League event for the second consecutive year after hosting the tournament in 2023.
Spain is one of the main hubs of Karate in Europe and has hosted many top international events including Karate 1 Series A in Pamplona in 2022, Karate 1 Premier League in 2019, the European Senior Championships in 2019 and 2023 and the World Championships in 2018, to name a few. Last year the Karate 1-Youth League in A Coruna gathered 2198 athletes from 64 countries.
It is gratifying that «Budo Nord» representative Nyman Agnes was able to distinguish herself in La Coruña. The Swedish karateka, competing in the up to 48 kg category among juniors, spent most of her fights against rivals from Italy. First she won Iumıento Vıttorıa (1:0), then she beat the Turkish Tekcan Eylul (2:0), and all subsequent rivals were Italians. In the quarterfinals, Nyman Agnez beat Legittimo Ludovica (3:0), and in the semifinals, Orta Rebecca (3:0), guaranteeing her place in the final. However, the Swiss athlete, having lost the decisive match, won a silver medal.
Also distinguished himself at junior competitions Boisnet Sacha. The French karateka, who competed in the weight category up to 68 kg, overcame the preliminary stage and reached the quarter-finalists. At this stage, he defeated the Spaniard Diego Roldan Ruben (4:1), and in the semi-finals he lost to his compatriot Hierso Hairiss. The match turned out to be tense, and Boisnet lost by one point – 3:4. However, Sasha did not miss the chance for the bronze award, defeating Pica Gian Lorenzo from Italy (3:1) in the small final.
Ferreira Afonso stopped one step away from a medal. He performed in the age category up to 14 years in the weight category up to 50 kg. The Portuguese won several fights from the start of the tournament and reached the semi-finals. Here he lost to Spaniard Quesada Torres Ivan (2:3), and in the bronze medal match he lost to Kononov Maksym from Ukraine (0:6).
Young karatekas have two Youth League tournaments in a row ahead. At the end of June they will travel to Porec, Croatia.
